NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team kicked off the conference portion of their 2021 season with a 6-3 victory over Calvin on Saturday afternoon.
Alyssa Gulli captured a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win at five singles for Saint Mary's.
Lilly Chamberlin then put the Belles a match within the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win at three singles.
Megan Davy clinched the win for the home side as the senior took a 6-2, 6-2 decision at one singles.
Kathleen McLeod added a 6-1, 6-4 win at six singles for the Belles.
Meredith Heckert and
Lucy Chamberlin had marathon battles in their singles matches. Heckert shouldered a hardfought 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 setback at four singles. Chamberlin, meanwhile, fell in a tight 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) final at two singles.
Nicole Becker and
Annika Smith had an 8-5 exhibition doubles win on the day.
Jane Price captured an 8-4 exhibition singles win, and Becker had an 8-3 win in exhibition play.
Nikki Rust split exhibition singles finals with an 8-3 loss and a 8-7 (5) win on the day.
The Belles (3-2, 1-0 MIAA) have a short turnaround until their next match as Saint Mary's travels to Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek, Michigan to take on Olivet on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
