ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team came up just short in a 5-4 conference match against Trine on Saturday afternoon.
Gulli was the first player off the court as the junior picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at four singles as the overall score drew even at 2-2. Davy was stopped 6-0, 6-3 in the one singles match as Trine took an overall lead they would not relinquish. Heckert had another close match in a 7-5, 6-3 setback at five singles. Price earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at six singles to make it a 4-3 match overall.
Lucy Chamberlin and
Lilly Chamberlin both had marathon matches at two and three singles as the Belles needed both flights for the team win.
Lucy Chamberlin came up just short in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 two singles match.
Lilly Chamberlin out-dueled her opponent at three singles for a 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 win on the day.
Several Belles earned exhibition wins at the event.
Kalyn Borger and
Nicole Becker had an 8-2 doubles win. Becker then took an 8-3 singles win.
Annika Smith claimed an 8-6 decision in an exhibition singles competition, and
Nikki Rust captured an 8-3 exhibition victory of her own.
The Belles (4-3, 2-1 MIAA) have a week off before their next match as they are scheduled to travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday, April 17 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
