Belles Washed Out Against Yellow Jackets, Thunder

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Mary's tennis team had their match against Baldwin Wallace washed out by rain, and the court conditions never improved to be playable as the Belles' match against Wheaton was canceled.

In the unfinished match against Baldwin Wallace, the Belles had some momentum going into singles play after three strong efforts in doubles. Kathleen McLeod and Nikki Rust claimed an 8-2 win at three doubles as the first pairing off the courts. Meredith Heckert and Kalyn Borger were not far behind with an 8-3 win of their own at two doubles. Alayna Campbell and Lucy Chamberlin were narrowly edged out in an 8-7 (5-0) match at one doubles.

Alayna Campbell was on the doorstep of a win at three singles as the freshman held a 6-1, 5-1 lead when things were halted due to rain. Katie Hunter had a 6-4 edge after the first set in her five singles match. Meredith Heckert had just started her second set at two singles as the senior eyed a comeback in a 6-2, 1-0 match. Kalyn Borger trailed 6-4 after her first set at six singles with the chance to stage a comeback of her own as the match was stopped.

The Florida humidity was not the friend of tennis teams on Wednesday as the courts were unable to dry off to a playable condition for the Belles' evening match against Wheaton.

The Belles are slated to close out their slate of Florida competition on Thursday when they face Marywood at 8:30 a.m.
