ADRIAN, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team got out to a big 3-0 lead through doubles and captured a 7-2 conference win at Adrian on Saturday.
Alayna Campbell did not drop a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win at two singles.
Lucy Chamberlin battled in a 6-3, 6-1 loss at one singles.
Kalyn Borger came up just short in a tightly-contested 6-4, 6-2 final at five singles.
Nikki Rust clinched the team win for the Belles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at six singles for the Belles.
Meredith Heckert and
Kathleen McLeod both battled for nearly two hours in their singles matches. Heckert won her first set 7-5 but was on the wrong end of a 6-3 second set. With the match already clinched, the senior went to a tiebreaker and came out ahead of her counterpart by a 10-7 margin. McLeod bounced back from a 6-2 loss in her opening set to take the second set 7-5 to also force a tiebreaker. The junior pulled away in the deciding frame with a 10-5 score for the win.
The Belles (7-9, 4-2 MIAA) are set to host Hope on Tuesday, April 26 at 4:00 p.m.
