NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team fought their way to a 7-2 conference win over Adrian on Sunday afternoon.

 

Kathleen McLeod and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans were the first pair off the courts at the Eck Tennis Pavilion with a decisive 8-1 victory at three doubles. Alayna Campbell and Emma Kealy overcame an early deficit to earn an 8-3 win at one doubles for the Belles. Trailing 5-4 in their two doubles match, Lucy Chamberlin and Emma Kealy rallied back to take the next four games in-a-row for an 8-5 decision to give Saint Mary's a 3-0 lead.

 

Evelyn Demblans-Dechans powered her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win at six singles, and Emma Kealy sealed the win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at three singles. Leah Hosang got an early lead in her first set and prevailed 6-4, 6-1 in her four singles match. Lucy Chamberlin had several long points just narrowly go the other way in a 6-2, 6-2 setback at one singles. At two singles, Alayna Campbell bounced back from a 6-4 loss in the first set and took the second set 6-1 to force a ten-point super tiebreaker. Campbell gained an early edge before closing out the comeback win by a 10-8 margin. Kathleen McLeod's five singles match was also decided in a ten-point super tiebreaker as she fell just short in a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) final.

 

Kalyn Borger and Annika Smith claimed a 6-1 exhibition doubles win moments before Katie Hunter and Hannah Gerner came off the court with a 6-1 exhibition doubles win of their own. Smith went on to earn a 6-1 exhibition singles win, and Ava Stengle closed out the results with a 6-2 exhibition singles victory.

 

The Belles (12-0, 2-0 MIAA) is set to host Calvin for a conference match on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
