NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team captured a 6-3 win over Huntington at the Eck Tennis Pavilion to kick off their Spring 2024 schedule on Saturday.

 

The Belles battled through two doubles wins to take the lead against the Foresters. Alayna Campbell and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans earned an 8-7 (7-4) victory at one doubles while Emma Kealy and Anna Gardner added a matching 8-7 (7-4) decision for the Belles at two doubles. Hannah Gerner and Grace Clearwater ended on the short end of an 8-1 final at three doubles.

 

Anna Gardner took a 6-0, 6-4 win at four singles to extend the lead for Saint Mary's. Katie Hunter was stopped in a 6-2, 6-1 setback at five singles. Evelyn Demblans-Dechans put the Belles within a win of the team victory with a 6-1, 6-4 decision at three singles, and Emma Kealy clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-3 final at two singles. Hannah Gerner prevailed in a tight 7-6, 6-4 match at six singles. Alayna Campbell nearly fought her way to a win at one singles but the tiebreaker went the Huntington way in a 6-4, 3-6, 10-2 final.

 

Olivia Fredrickson, Michaela Hauer, and Genevieve Brawner all competed in exhibition matches for the Belles. Fredrickson and Hauer were stopped just short in an 8-6 doubles match. Hauer went on to claim an 8-1 singles win, and Brawner followed suit with an 8-1 win.

The Belles (2-2) are back in action on Friday when they host both Spring Arbor and Goshen at South Shore Racquet Club in Saint Joseph, Michigan starting at 1:00 p.m.
