Belles Come Up Clutch to Keep Win Streak Alive

ST. JOE, Mich. - Saint Mary's Tennis defeated North Park University on Saturday afternoon, 4-3, to extend their win streak to five matches. The Belles improve to 9-3 on the year while the Vikings fall to 9-6.

Doubles

While North Park would take the win at the number one doubles, Saint Mary's would come out and take numbers two and three to earn the doubles point, which would become crucial deciding the match. Junior Hannah Gerner (Crown Point, IN) and freshman Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) were victorious at  number two, 6-2, while sophomore Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and freshman Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) would take care of their opponent easily at number three, 6-3.

Singles

The Belles and Vikings would come out and split the singles matches, each team earning three wins on the day. North Park would take wins at the numbers one, two, and three matches. Gardner would come out and take a victory in the number four match in a tiebreaker finish, 3-6 7-6 10-3. Brant would come out and earn a win at the number five, 6-2 6-2, and Gerner would hold off her opponent for a 6-2 7-5 victory.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES

Saint Mary's returns to action on March 29 as they host Trine University for their first MIAA home match of the season, scheduled to start at 1pm. The Belles will then host Adrian College on April 2 at 4pm.
