NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Tennis stayed unbeaten in MIAA play as they took care of Adrian College easily on Wednesday afternoon, 7-0. The Belles improve to 16-5 (5-0 MIAA) while the Bulldogs fall to 7-9 (2-3 MIAA).
Doubles
Saint Mary's started out doubles play strong as senior
Evelyn Demblans-Dechans (Missoula, MT) and junior
Sophia Pischalko (Granger, IN) took home a dominant win at the number two match, 6-0. Junior
Anna Gardner (Houston, TX) and sophomore
Odessa Norton (Carmel, IN) followed that up closely with a strong 6-2 win the number three match to claim the doubles point. Adrian fought back and took the number one match to close out doubles play.
Singles
Demblans-Dechans kicked off singles after her opponent retired in the second set after Demblans-Dechans took a 6-1 win in game one and 3-0 lead in game two. Sophomore
Lanie Brant (Stevensville, MI) and Pischalko followed that up with back-to-back wins at numbers six and five to claim the match win for the Belles. Both players earned 6-0 6-1 victories each. Sophomore
Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) continued the Belles hot day with a 6-0 6-3 win at the number three match before senior
Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH) took down her opponent at number one, 6-1 6-1. Gardner closed out the day with a strong third set victory at number two, after falling in the first set, 6-0, Gardner came back for a 0-6 6-3 1-0 victory.
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's will host their home finale on Saturday as they welcome in Calvin University for an 11am start. The Belles will also celebrate Senior Day before the match. The Belles close out the season with road matches with Kalamazoo College, April 21, and Hope College, April 25.
