Belles Fall to Hornets in Trip North

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Lacrosse fell to Kalamazoo College in their final road game of the regular season, 17-5. The Belles fall to 10-5 (2-4 MIAA) while the Hornets improve to 8-8 (4-2 MIAA).
 
Kalamazoo got the scoring started with a goal just over four minutes into the game before Saint Mary's tied the game back up thanks to a goal from sophomore Piper Downey (Northbrook, IL) on a free position shot. The Hornets would add three more goals in the remainder of the first quarter to go into the first break with a 4-1 lead.
 
Kalamazoo then shut out the Belles in the second quarter while scoring six goals to head into halftime with a 10-1 lead.
 
Saint Mary's got back into an offensive rhythm to open the second half. Freshman Sophia Martinello (Elmhurst, IL) added her name to the score sheet less than three minutes in. Midway through the quarter, junior Kelsey King (Sylvania, OH) found the back of the net with an assist from fellow junior Lana Skibins (Granger, IN). The Hornets added two more goals in the final three minutes to go into the final quarter leading, 12-3.
 
The Belles got the fourth quarter started as junior Rachel Speckhard (Munster, IN) added another goal to her season tally while junior Kathryn Kalinowski (Atlanta, GA) tallied her first assist of the day. Kalamazoo would respond with back-to-back goals of their own. Sophomore Annabelle Spruill (Brookhaven, GA) then found the back of the net off a free position shot to try and mount a Belles comeback before the Hornets would bounce right back with three more goals.
 
King, Speckhard, Spruill, Martinello, and Downey all added goals on the day while Skibins and Kalinowski added an assist each. 
 
Defensively, junior Sophia Delgado (Indianapolis, IN) led the team with four ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior Cate Shepherd also added two caused turnovers. Downey would tally a team high five draw controls on the game.
 
In goal, sophomore Kaya Seaboy (Evansville, IN) tallied 13 saves and a 43% save percentage.

Saint Mary's closes out the regular season on Tuesday, April 21, as they host Trine University for a 4pm start.
