ST. JOSEPH, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Tennis was defeated for the first time in MIAA play, falling 5-2 to Calvin University on Saturday. The Belles fall to 16-6 (5-1 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 7-6 (4-1 MIAA).
 
Saint Mary's also celebrated senior day before the match, honoring seniors Evelyn Demblans-Dechans (Missoula, MT) and Emma Kealy (Hudson, OH).
 
Doubles
Calvin got the first two wins of the day at the numbers two and three matches to take the doubles point early. Kealy and sophomore Shannon Dudy (Glenview, IL) bounced back and gave Saint Mary's their first win of the day with a 6-4 victory at number one.
 
Singles
Kealy stayed hot going into singles play, taking care of her opponent easily, 6-0 6-2, at the number one match to stay undefeated on the day. The Knights would retake the lead with a win at the number two match before Demblans-Dechans made quick work of her opponent at the number four match, 6-0 6-2, to tie the match at two all. Calvin retook the lead back with a third set victory at the number three match before closing out the match with wins at five and six.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's hits the road for their final two matches of the regular season. The Belles will head to Kalamazoo College on Tuesday, April 21, for a 4pm matchup before traveling to Hope College on April 25 to close out the regular season.
