FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Saint Mary's College Golf sophomore
Melanie Maier (Richmond, TX) was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Golfer of the Week after her performance last week.
Â
Maier led the Belles to a team win at the Trine Spring Classic as the team shot a season low 307 as a team as they earned their third win of the season. Individually, Maier took home a first place finish for the second time this season, and fourth of her career. She finished the afternoon with a two-over 74.
Â
After a slow start to her day, Maier turned it on in her final 11 holes, adding four birdies to her scorecard and finishing the front nine with a two-under 34. Maier tallied back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to close out the back nine and added birdies on holes 5 and 7, birdieing three of the four par-fives on the day.
Â
Maier and the Belles prepare for the MIAA Championships this weekend as they look for their third straight trip to the NCAA Nationals. Saint Mary's will compete on April 24-25 at Legacy by Arthur Hills Golf Course in Ottawa Lake, MI.
