Danielle Scheel MS, LAT, ATC joined the Saint Mary's College athletic training staff in May 2024.
Scheel brings a variety of clinical experiences to her role at Saint Mary's. She recently completed a two-month stint with the Indianapolis Fire Department through ProTeam Tactical Performance, where she provided care and oversaw rehabilitation of injuries sustained on the job by Indianapolis firefighters. Scheel has worked with both the Marian University and San Diego State University football teams with pre-practice and post-practice treatments, injury evaluations and care, and therapeutic interventions and modalities.
Throughout the 2022-23 academic year, Scheel gained a wide range of experience in the high school and college settings. She worked with student-athletes at the University of Indianapolis, Southport High School, Center Grove High School, and Marian University. In those stints, she worked with student-athletes from a wide range of sports while also assisting with the Crossroads League Championships in track and field.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Julie Schroeder-Biek and Karen Holmes for this opportunity," said Scheel. "I am excited to be a part of a program that recognizes the importance of athletic trainers and the care and support we bring to their student-athletes. I recognized early on that I would love to work in the collegiate setting, and I am blessed that I get to start my journey here at Saint Mary's College."
Scheel earned her bachelor of science in psychology in 2021 and a master of athletic training in 2024 both from the University of Indianapolis. She has research experience in both areas of study. She co-authored a study on COVID-19 and how it impacted social interactions, relationships, and anxiety in 2021. During her master's degree work, she was part of research that examined concussions in pediatric and adolescent patients and recovery time.
She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association (GLATA), and the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association (IATA). Scheel has also participated in both the GLATA and IATA annual meetings and symposiums.
