KOKOMO, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team fell just short in a 4-3 final against NAIA foe Indiana University Kokomo on Sunday afternoon.
Following the host Cougars' NAIA scoring format, the collective results from the three doubles flights counted as a single point in the contest. Kathleen McLeod and
Nikki Rust continued their hot streak at three doubles as the pair captured a 6-2 win.
Kalyn Borger and
Meredith Heckert were stopped in a 6-4 final at two doubles. With the doubles point hanging on the result of the one doubles flight,
Lucy Chamberlin and
Alayna Campbell battled back-and-forth in a tight competition but fell just short in the tiebreaker in a 7-6 (7-2) match.
Katie Hunter was on the short end of a 6-0, 6-0 final at five singles.
Kathleen McLeod came off the court with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at four singles as the Belles kept within striking distance.
Lucy Chamberlin fell in a one singles match by 6-1, 6-3 scores.
Meredith Heckert was stopped 6-3, 6-3 in her three singles match.
Alayna Campbell edged her counterpart 7-5 in the first set before dominating the scoreline in the second set by a 6-1 margin for the straight-set win.
Nikki Rust closed out the official results with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at six singles.
Bailey Siglow garnered an exhibition singles win by a 6-4, 6-4 score on the day.
The Belles (2-6) are back on the road on Thursday when they travel to Anderson for a 3:30 p.m. match.
