PENDLETON, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team captured a 7-2 win over Anderson at the Community Sport and Wellness Center on Thursday afternoon.

 

The Belles took a commanding 3-0 lead through the completion of doubles play. Kalyn Borger and Meredith Heckert claimed a 6-2 decision at two doubles. Alayna Campbell and Lucy Chamberlin then prevailed in a 6-1 final at one doubles. Kathleen McLeod and Nikki Rust swept the doubles results with a 6-2 win at the number three flight for the Belles.

 

Alayna Campbell was then the first singles match off the courts as the freshman dropped just a single game in a 6-1, 6-0 final at the number two flight. Lucy Chamberlin clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at one singles. Meredith Heckert outlasted her counterpart at three singles as the senior bounced back from a second-set loss to win in a tiebreaker 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7). Nikki Rust got out to a big lead in the first set for a 6-1 win and held off a comeback effort for a 7-5 win in the second set at six singles. Due to court availability, the four and five singles matches played a single eight-game pro set to decide the outcome of their competitions. Katie Hunter was on the short end of an 8-4 final at five singles. Kathleen McLeod fell in a tight 8-5 match at four singles.

 

The Belles (3-6) are set to open conference competition on Saturday when they travel to Calvin for a 1:00 p.m. MIAA contest against the Knights.
