ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Mary's tennis team used a weather suspension to hit the reset button and turn a 2-1 deficit after doubles into a 5-4 team win over Covenant on Tuesday afternoon.

 

The match, which began at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night before rain in Orlando caused the teams to stop play, saw the Scots hold a narrow advantage over the Belles overnight. The pairings of Kalyn Borger and Meredith Heckert at two doubles and Lucy Chamberlin and Alayna Campbell at one doubles both shouldered 8-5 losses last night. McLeod and Rust were trailing 5-0 in their three doubles match before staging a massive comeback in an 8-6 win.

 

Heckert battled in a 6-2, 6-2 setback at two singles. Lucy Chamberlin claimed a 6-1, 6-3 decision at one singles, and Alayna Campbell took a 6-3, 6-0 win at three singles to make the overall match score 3-3 with three matches to go. Kalyn Borger was on the wrong side of a 6-1, 6-2 final at five singles before Nikki Rust captured a 6-1, 6-2 win at six singles as the match hinged on the four singles result. Kathleen McLeod clinched the team win with a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 decision at the flight as the Belles prevailed by the 5-4 final.

 

Katie Hunter and Bailey Siglow had an 8-4 exhibition four doubles win last night. The pair played abbreviated exhibition singles matches on Tuesday with Hunter taking a 4-1 win while Siglow fell in a 4-0 match.

 

The Belles (1-5) return to the courts in Florida on Wednesday for a pair of matches as Saint Mary's is scheduled to face Baldwin Wallace at 11:00 a.m. and Wheaton (Ill.) at 6:00 p.m.
