Belles Earn Two Wins to Cap Off Great Lakes Cross Over

SANDUSKY, Ohio - The Saint Mary's volleyball team broke a 1-1 deadlock against Waynesburg and took a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16) win to open the day before using a come-from-behind effort to defeat Defiance in a 3-2 (19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-19, 15-13) thriller.

In the opener against Waynesburg, Colleen McCarthy continued to provide a big offensive effort with 20 kills while also adding 26 digs on the defensive side. Cali Allen chipped in her first double-double in a Belles uniform with a 12-kill, 16-dig performance. Mia Shields tallied seven kills, and Shay Theile and Grace Braselton each collected five kills. Braselton posted a solo block, and Theile recorded 14 digs in the win. Emma Watford and Courtney Pelletier came away with nine and eight digs, respectively to help the defensive efforts in the victory. Remington Vincent had her second double-double in as many matches with 25 assists and 10 digs while serving up three aces, and Karla Rigan put up 21 assists for the Belles.
 
The Belles then closed out their trip to Cedar Point with another five-set victory. McCarthy had team-highs of 11 kills and 17 digs. Grace Braselton put down her first collegiate double-digit kill effort with 10 in the win, and Mia Shields added 10 kills of her own. Cali Allen posted 11 digs with seven kills, and Delaney Martin and Shay Theile shared team-best honors with three assisted blocks apiece. Remington Vincent matched Theile with four aces, and the freshman tallied 21 assists and 10 digs for her third double-double. Karla Rigan hit doubel-digit assists with 17 in the win. 
 
The Belles are now set for their home opener on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. Saint Mary's hosts Trine for a non-conference match at Angela Athletic & Wellness Complex.
