Belles Fall to Thunder in MIAA Home Opener

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball fell to Trine University on Wednesday night, 3-1. The Belles fall to 8-10 (0-3 MIAA) while the Thunder improve to 14-3 (1-1 MIAA).

Both teams battled back and forth in the first set and matched each other point for point for the majority of the set, but Trine was able to pull away towards the end and take the first set, 25-22. Saint Mary's out hit Trine, .316-.297, but it was one more kill that helped the Thunder get past.

Saint Mary's was able to battle back and take the second set, 25-22. It was seven forced errors by the Belles that helped propel them to equalize the match.

The Thunder came right back in the third set with a dominant win, 25-14. The Belles had just five kills in the set and hit -.091. Trine was able to use 11 kills in the set to boost them to victory.

While Saint Mary's climbed back into the fourth set late, Trine finished off the match with a 25-20 win. The Thunder hit .308 in the set and out killed the Belles, 15-12.

Sophomore Caroline Carens (Naperville, IL) and freshman Kalli Lewkowski (Spring Lake, MI) led the team with 13 kills each while Carens hit .300 on the night. Sophomore Abby Reese (Elkhart, IN) led the team with 20 assists while freshman Giuliana Graczyk (Chicago, IL) added 14. Junior Karli Fegan (Orland Park, IL) led in digs with 21 while senior Cali Allen (Berrien Springs, MI) also reached double-digits with 10.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES

Saint Mary's completes the home stand on October 15 when they host Calvin University for their annual Red Glasses game with the match scheduled to start at 7pm.
