ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Saint Mary's College Basketball fell to Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday night in the Hyatt Place Tournament Championship, 99-40. The Belles fall to 2-2 on the year while the Bears improve to 2-0. Belles senior Julia Schutz (Dyer, IN) was named to the All-Tournament Team after the game.
The teams played evenly early in the first quarter as they would go into the media timeout with just a six point difference after the Belles nailed three from deep. But the Bears would come out and take their lead after the first ten minutes, 25-13. Sophomore Annie Restovich (Wildwood, MO) would lead Saint Mary's with six points in the early quarter.
The second quarter was all Washington as they would shoot 60% from the field and hold Saint Mary's to just 22% to go into the halftime break with a 47-19 lead.
Washington continued to stay hot from the field as they continued to shoot above 50% in the third quarter to go into the final 10 minutes with a 66-32 lead.
The Bears would dominate the fourth quarter, putting up their most points in a quarter, 33, to claim the win.
Schutz would lead the team with 11 points and would grab a team high five rebounds. Restovich, along with with senior Lauren Gumma (Troy, MI) and junior Nicole Connolly (Mokena, IL) each added six points. Gumma along with freshman Kate Passinault (Grand Rapids, MI) would each grab three rebounds. The Belles would shoot 23% (12-52) from the field while shooting 28% (6-21) from three point and shooting 52% (10-19) from the free throw line.
UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's returns home on November 20 to host Franklin College with a 7pm tipoff before hitting the road on November 23 to take on Benedictine University. The Belles will then return home for their final home game of 2024 when they host Anderson University on November 26 for a 7pm tipoff.
