Belles Fall to Saints in Rivalry Match

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Basketball fell to Holy Cross College on Wednesday night in a rivalry matchup, 84-61. The Belles fall to 3-6 (0-1 MIAA) on the year while the Saints improve to 6-4.

Holy Cross got out to a fast start in the first quarter as they saw a 20 point advantage after the first ten minutes, leading 34-14. Sophomore Annie Restovich (Wildwood, MO) led Saint Mary's in the first quarter with three points while five other Belles joined the scoresheet.

The Belles started to pull back in the second quarter as they would outscore the Saints, 20-12, in the quarter but trailed going into the locker room, 46-33. Restovich was 3 for 3 from the field and from three point range to lead Saint Mary's with nine points. Junior Nicole Connolly (Mokena, IL) added six points while three Belles had four.

Both teams played evenly to open the second half but the Saints would continue their lead. Annie Restovich would move into double-digit points with 12 while sophomore Kate Restovich (Wildwood, MO) had eight.

Holy Cross continued to control the fourth quarter as they would hold their double-digit lead into the final minutes to secure their win. Saint Mary's would outshoot Holy Cross, 48% to 46% while outshooting them from three point, 40% to 31%.

Annie Restovich led the team with 15 points while Kate Restovich joined her in double-digits with 10. Senior Julia Schutz (Dyer, IN) added nine while Connolly and freshman Kate Passinault (Grand Rapids, MI) added six. Schutz led the team with five rebounds while Connolly grabbed three.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES

Saint Mary's continues the road trip as they head north for their second MIAA game of the season as they take on 24th ranked Hope College on Saturday with tipoff at 5pm. The Belles finish 2024 on the road on December 21 at Elmhurst University before returning home on January 4 to open the new year with their MIAA home opener as they host Trine University for a 1pm tipoff.
