NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team claimed a 7-2 conference win over Kalamazoo on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Belles jumped out to a 3-0 lead through doubles play with all three matches finishing nearly simultaneously. Hannah Gerner and Katie Hunter captured an 8-5 win at three doubles. Alayna Campbell and Evelyn Demblans-Dechans prevailed 8-4 at one doubles. Anna Gardner and Emma Kealy gave Saint Mary's the sweep of doubles with an 8-5 win at the number two flight.

 

Anna Gardner won a 6-3, 6-3 final at four singles before Evelyn Demblans-Dechans clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at three singles. Grace Clearwater nearly forced a deciding set in a 6-2, 7-5 setback at five singles. Alayna Campbell came up on the short end of a 6-3, 6-3 final at one singles. Emma Kealy won a big first set and used a commanding win in the second-set tiebreaker to earn a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) win at two singles. Hannah Gerner wrapped up the official scores by battling to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win at six singles.

 

Michaela Hauer and Grace Clearwater captured an exhibition doubles win by a 6-3 score while Genevieve Brawner and Olivia Erickson fell 6-2 in their exhibition doubles competition. Katie Hunter came up just short in a tight 8-7 (11-9) exhibition singles match, and Hauer fell in a 6-3 exhibition singles match on the day.

 

The Belles (13-6, 3-2 MIAA) are back on their home court on Tuesday, April 16 when they host Trine at 4:00 p.m.
