Belles Dominate Titans in Cross-Town Rivalry

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer took down Indiana University-South Bend 5-0 on Tuesday for their second straight shut out. The Belles improve to 2-2 on the year while the Titans fall to 1-3-1.

Saint Mary's got out to a fast start as senior Izzi Linus gave the Belles the lead at the 8:46 mark. Linus would find the back of the net again in the first half to secure a brace and send Saint Mary's into the half with a 2-0 lead. Junior Brynn Stauffacher and senior Grace Barresi each tallied assists in the first half.

The attack wouldn't slow down for the Belles as less than five minutes into the half, sophomore Margaret Slove would extend the lead to three. As the half continued, the Belles were awarded a penalty at the 63:39 mark and sophomore Brooke Baumann slotted it away. Saint Mary's couldn't stop scoring as senior Katie Harrington found the back of the net in the 86th minute. Linus, junior Grace Reyda, and sophomores Layne Ridderman and Claire Keely all tallied assists in the second half.

The Belles dominated offensively and defensively as they outshot the Titans 25-3, including shots-on-goal 17-0.

Saint Mary's returns to the pitch this Saturday when they travel to take on Franklin University for a 2:30pm kickoff. The Belles then return home on September 18 to host Anderson University, the first of back-to-back home matches.
