NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Volleyball fell to Manchester University on Tuesday night, 3-0. The Belles fall to 7-4 on the year while the Spartans improve to 9-6.
While both teams fought till the end of the set, Manchester was able to take advantage of some Saint Mary's mistakes and take an early lead with a 25-22 victory in the first set. Freshman Kalli Lewkowski led the team at the end of the set with four kills.
Both teams would continue to trade points but the Spartans were able to edge out the Belles, 25-23, in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. Lewkowski brought her kill total to nine in the set while sophomore Abby Reese had racked up eight assists and junior Karli Fegan had totalled nine digs.
The story of the final set was a crucial run in the middle of the set to take the lead and never look back for the Spartans. Manchester would go on to take the third set and the match with a 25-21 victory and had tallied their third straight set with 15 or more kills. Lewkowski ended the match with a team high 12 kills while Reese had brought her assist total to a team high 15. Fegan finished the night with 11 digs while junior Delaney Martin was the only Belle to tally multiple service aces.

Saint Mary's hits the road for their next five matches as they travel to Terre Haute, IN for the Rose-Hulman Invitational where they will play Anderson on Friday night and Illinois College and Rose-Hulman on Saturday. The Belles then open conference play on October 1 when they travel to Alma and will make a stop at Hope on October 5 before returning home on October 6 to host Beloit for their Morgan's Message game with the start time set for 2pm.
