Slow Second Half Halts Belles in Loss to Knights

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Basketball fell to Calvin University on Saturday afternoon, 65-47. The Belles fall to 4-14 (1-8 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 11-7 (7-2).

Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter with both shooting above 40% in the quarter alone as Calvin would take an early 19-13 lead at the break. Saint Mary's would take an early lead from Calvin when sophomore Annie Restovich (Wildwood, MO) made her first appearance after missing six games, knocking down a three pointer.

The Belles would start to make a comeback in the second quarter as they would outscore the Knights and go into the break down just 34-30. Sophomore Kate Restovich (Wildwood, MO) would go into the halftime break with 10 points to lead the Belles, including going 7-8 from the free throw line. Six Belles got into the scoring column in the first half.

Calvin would come out red hot in the second half while Saint Mary's would go cold from the field. The Knights would go on a 17-0 run to open the half and would never look back. They would outscore the Belles 31-17 in the second half, securing their second win over the Belles this season.

Kate Restovich would lead Saint Mary's with 17 points, her fourth straight game with double–digit points and has gone into double figures in eight of the last ten games. Senior Julia Schutz (Dyer, IN) would finish with 16 points, now six of her last seven games in double figures. Freshman Kate Passinault (Grand Rapids, MI) grabbed a team high eight rebounds while Schutz would grab seven. Schutz would also dish out a team high three assists.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES

Saint Mary's will enter their bye week and have a week off before traveling west to Angola, IN to take on Trine University on February 1 at 1pm before returning home to open a three game homestand. The homestand will start on February 5 as the Belles host Hope College and will see Kalamazoo College and the University of Olivet visit the Angela Athletic Complex.
