NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer fell to Calvin University on Saturday in a hot Saturday afternoon matchup, 5-0. The Belles fall to 6-2-2 (0-2 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 6-4 (2-0 MIAA).

Calvin got out to an early lead, putting up two goals in the first eleven minutes of the match. While Saint Mary's tried to bounce back, the Knights defense and midfield suffocated the Belles attack. Calvin would add a third goal in the 21st minute to extend their lead to 3-0 before the halftime break. The Knights would outshoot the Belles 10-1 in the first half and 6-0 in shots on goal.

The Saint Mary's offense got moving quick to open the second half. But the Knights would continue to put pressure on the Belles defense and found themselves a fourth goal off a cross and header to extend their lead to four.Â

While the Belles continued to press the Knights, Calvin played excellent defense and kept Saint Mary's out of their box. The Knights added their fifth and final goal in the 74th minute to extend and close out the scoring with a 5-0 lead.

Mia Johnson (Mission Viejo, CA) led the Belles with three total shots and two shots on goal. Four other Belles would add a single shot while sophomore
Danielle Escobedo (Yorba Linda, CA) and senior
Janelle Aiello (Plymouth, MI) added a shot on goal each.

Keona Caraballo (Parma, OH) made three saves on the day after coming in for freshman
Meghan Krayer (Hinsdale, IL) who left the game in the 10th minute with an injury.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES
Saint Mary's continues their homestand on Saturday, October 11, as they host Adrian College for a 12:30 pm matchup. The Belles then host the University of Olivet on October 14 to close out the homestand with a 6pm kickoff.

The Belles will also celebrate Senior Day against Adrian.
