Belles Take Down Comets in First Conference Wins

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Softball sweeps the University of Olivet in both conference games on Thursday afternoon, 10-4 in game one and 8-3 in game two. The Belles improve to 8-10 (2-2 MIAA) on the season while the Comets fall to 1-11 (0-4 MIAA).

Game One

Saint Mary's would get a hot start scoring all 10 runs in the first three innings. Olivet would add three in the first three as well. 

Sophomore Laura Heim (Howards Grove, WI.) would lead with three runs, three Belles would record two hits and freshman Lydia Hinga (Portage, MI) would have one. Freshman Faith Dean (Monroe, MI) led the game with four RBI's.

Dean would be the pitcher on record, throwing 5 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. Sophomore Sammy Schrader (Romeoville, IL) would finish the game, throwing 2 innings, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit. 

Game Two

Olivet would lead at the start of the game, having two runs in the first inning, but not long before Saint Mary's would take control of the game. The Belles would get hot at the plate, adding three runs in the third and five in the sixth. 

Hinga would lead with two runs, with six other Belles adding on one to contribute to the teams eight. Freshman Talia Jorgensen (St. Paul, MN) would lead with hits and RBI's on the game, totaling three hits and 3 RBI's. 

Junior Sam Mikitka (Naperville, IL) would be the pitcher of record, throwing all seven innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. 

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES:

Saint Mary's returns to action this Sunday, April 13, where they will hit the road to take on Kalamazoo College with start times of 1 and 3pm.
