NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Softball fell to Calvin University in both games of their double header on Saturday afternoon, 7-0 in game one and 6-5 in game two. The Belles fall to 8-18 (2-10 MIAA) while the Knights improve to 22-12 (9-2 MIAA).
Game One
While both teams went scoreless in the first inning, Calvin would add two runs in the second and one in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Knights would continue to shut down the Saint Mary's offense before adding four more runs in the sixth to close out their 7-0 victory.
Junior Sam Mikitka (Naperville, IL) would lead the Belles at the dish, going a perfect 3 for 3 on the day with two doubles. Senior Alexis Rauch (Cassopolis, MI), junior Leah Zimmerman (Huntertown, IN), and freshman Talia Jorgensen (St. Paul, MN) would all add a hit in the game.
Freshman Faith Dean (Monroe, MI) would be the pitcher of record, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Freshman Ashlyn Yeo (Jackson, MI) would finish the game for the Belles, throwing 1.2 innings while allowing one run on one hit.
Game Two
The Saint Mary's offense would get going early as sophomore Laura Heim (Howards Grove, WI) would single to right center to bring Jorgensen home for the first run of the game. Calvin would add two runs in the bottom of the first before a lead off walk, then a sacrifice bunt, would lead to an RBI single down the right field line by Zimmerman to bring Rauch around to score.
The Knights would retake the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third and another run in the bottom of the fifth before the Belles would storm back in the top of the seventh. After a leadoff single back to the pitcher by Zimmerman, Heim would triple down the right field line to bring Zimmerman around to score. Freshman Gia Schiavone (Poland, OH) would then hit a fly ball to right field to bring Heim in with a sacrifice fly. Freshman Maddi Duncan (Sarasota, FL) would pinch hit and reach via a walk before Mikitka would reach on a throwing error by the third baseman, allowing Duncan to advance to third. Rauch would then single to the shortstop, allowing Duncan to come in and score to tie the ballgame at five.
After a leadoff double and bunt single, the Knights would ground into a fielder's choice to score the game winning run.
Heim, Rauch, Zimmerman, and sophomore Madi Ingolia (Lemont, IL) would all record two hits on the game while Jorgensen and freshman Hunter St. Peter (Traverse City, MI) would also add knocks. Rauch would double in the sixth inning, this being her 100th career hit for the Belles. Heim would add a triple to her tally in the seventh. Heim would also lead the team with two RBIs while Schiavone, Rauch, and Zimmerman would each add one.
Yeo would be the starting pitcher, throwing one inning and allowing two runs on one hit. Mikitka would be the pitcher of record, throwing five strong innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits.

Saint Mary's hits the road for back-to-back series to conclude the 2025 season. The Belles will travel to Hope College on Wednesday, April 30, for a double header starting at 3pm. They then conclude their season at Albion College on Friday, May 2, with a double header against the Britons starting at 3pm.
