Belles Earn Dominate Home Win Over Rams

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Saint Mary's College Soccer earned a dominant victory over North Central University (MN) on Thursday evening, 5-1. The Belles improve to 3-0 on the season while the Rams fall to 1-2.

Saint Mary's would dominate the game early on as they outshot North Central 17-1 in the first half alone. The Belles would get on the board for the first time as junior Eleah Hedstrom (St. Joseph, MI) would find the back of the net off an assist from junior Aubrey Brown (Valparaiso,IN) to give the Belles a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Saint Mary's would come out of the halftime break hot as they would double their lead minutes into the half thanks to a penalty kick goal from junior Brooke Baumann (Bartlett, IL). Shortly after, freshman Mia Johnson (Mission Viejo, CA) would extend the lead with her second goal of the season. The Belles offense would continue to dominate the Rams defense as they held position for the majority of the game.

Sophomore Kayla O'Neal (Carlsbad, CA) would add another goal to the tally with a beautiful long range shot over the keeper's head coming off a cross pass from Johnson. The scoring wouldn't stop there as sophomore Danielle Escobedo (Yorba Linda, CA) would tap in the fifth goal of the night off a cross from Hedstrom.

North Central would close the final score by one with a goal in the 87th minute, finishing the game with a final score of 5-1.

The Belles dominated offensively, outshooting the Rams 34-2 and 19-1 in shots on goal. Saint Mary's would also lead the game in corner kicks, 8-2.

Johnson would lead the team with eight shots while freshman Marley Cady (Cincinnati, OH) would tally five. Junior Layne Ridderman (Augusta, MI) would add four shots while freshman Bella Musachio (Rochester Hills, MI) and senior Janelle Aiello (Plymouth, MI) would each add three. Johnson and Ridderman would have three shots on goal while Escobedo, Hedstrom, and Cady each had two.

UP NEXT FOR THE BELLES

Saint Mary's continues the four-game homestand on Saturday as they host Bluffton University for a 2pm kickoff from the Purcell Athletic Fields. The Belles then conclude the homestand on Thursday, September 11, as they host Concordia University Chicago at 3pm.
